The importance of the surroundings at the moment of studying

Learning English

With the advent of new modalities in our lives, learning and studying methods have undergone significant changes, including the adoption of online classes. However, on many occasions, we overlook the environment in which we find ourselves when studying, which can create problems for both teachers and students. Today, I want to share an experience that illustrates this situation.

So far, I haven’t been able to understand why, but I’ve noticed something: being in an environment where we don’t feel safe can ruin our study time. It’s important to keep in mind that while the convenience of studying online is a benefit, it doesn’t mean that any place is suitable.

When we talk about teaching young children in a virtual setting, it is essential to mention to parents the importance of respecting the child’s privacy. We must provide them with a space where they feel free to express themselves and communicate without fear of being observed or making mistakes when speaking. These situations are also challenging for teachers as we expose ourselves to criticism regarding how we communicate with the children. For example, sometimes we remain silent to give the child time to think and formulate their response better.

The same applies to adults. I remember a mother of three children whom I teach. Everything was going well until the holidays arrived, and the mother’s behavior changed. She appeared more serious, less enthusiastic, and it was evident that she was pushing herself too hard and feeling stressed.

A good teacher

Each of us has the right to have an environment where we can study feeling safe, knowing that no one around us will judge us or expect us to make mistakes. That’s why it’s important to find a teacher we can trust, someone we can ask questions to as many times as necessary and express how we feel.

So, I encourage you to find a small space where you can be alone, studying without distractions and with the confidence that no one will judge you. I wish you much success on your journey towards mastering the English language and hope to see you soon in class.

Goodbye for now, and see you soon! 😉
